More than 25 years ago, one of the very first healthy-living books I ever picked up introduced me to a concept that completely stopped me in my tracks:

Real health starts at the level of your cells, the level you can’t see.

The book was Never Be Sick Again by Raymond Francis (you can see all my sticky notes!). Its big idea was simple, but radical to me at the time:

👉 If my cells are healthy, I’ll be healthy.

Back then, I wasn’t thinking about aging or longevity. I was a busy mom who used to get sick a lot. I just wanted to stop catching every bug going around and have enough energy to keep up with life and my family!

That cellular-level view of health is something I’ve clung to ever since.

When I’m out on a trail run or lifting weights, those reps aren't just about my muscles or lungs. Every single movement depends on trillions of tiny cells doing their job.

And it turns out, our cells are quietly fighting two daily battles at the same time:

🔋 Battle #1 — Cellular Energy: Can your cells still make power?
Inside almost every cell are tiny power plants called mitochondria that turn food and oxygen into usable energy. As we age, they can slow down and become less efficient. When cellular energy is high, you feel it: steady stamina, mental clarity, quick recovery. When it dips, you feel that too: the 3 PM crash, brain fog, and the workout that wipes you out for days.

🛡️ Battle #2 — Cellular Protection: Can your cells repair and defend themselves?
Every day, our cells take normal wear and tear. Healthy cells patrol, repair DNA, clear out damaged parts, and keep inflammation calm. When protection is strong, your body quietly keeps you resilient.

Here is the hopeful truth: You have the power to influence both battles every single day with simple habits:

Move your body & build muscle (signals your cells to stay strong)
Fuel well with real food (gives cells clean raw materials)
Deep, restorative sleep (the prime window for cellular repair)
Smart supplementation (giving your cells targeted fuel and NAD+ support that is hard to get from diet alone)

Small things, done consistently with gratitude. That’s the whole game.

👇 Tell me in the comments: Have you ever thought about your cells as the true foundation of how you feel, or is this a new way of looking at your health?
